I've seen alot of folks around here (Buffalo area) without front license plates. I really don't like the front plate, are these people paying to not have a front plate, or simply not putting it on and hoping not to get pulled over?
If it's the latter, how risky is it? Is it a big fine?
If it's the former, how do you do it?
I haven't drilled the front bumper, and don't want to.
i don't like the looks of it on my mustang so i don't have one... on my station car i don't care one way or the other, so it's there till it falls off or gets stolen...
A friend of mine drove around in his sedan with no front license plate for a long time. Every-time he got pulled over he would tell the cop he just got his car back from auto repairs.
The last ticket I got was for no front plate, it was during one of our finest's "seat belt checkpoint". As I recall, the fine was $50, with a $75 surcharge. I paid the fine, forgot the surcharge. Guess what happens when you don't pay the complete fine. That's right, a suspended licence. They do not tell you it's been suspended, if you are real lucky the next time you have occasion to present your licence, you get hauled off to jail. As much as I hate the way they look, I would go ahead and put it on. BTW, I tried the old "It just fell off and I'm just going to get a new bracket" ploy, it did not work.
..Okay..carry it in the car. Make sure there's no hardware on the front mount. When you're parked,
put it on the dash w/a small stickie note, "fell off..mount broke..awaiting parts". This should work as an
excuse(how do I know?...let's just say I'm in a position to know). If you get anything at all, it will probably be just a fix-it-ticket..well..then mount the plate..and have an officer clear the ticket..then get the cleared ticket in to the the court of the area you were stopped in

I guess it depends on the area where the car is parked if the ticket will be dismissed in such circumstances.
Just carry it in the car..if you're stopped.."It fell off and I will be getting a better mount for the front plate, asap".....sure..........
You can still get pulled over and ticketed for that. My SO had just bought his truck and the front brackets were rusted through so he didn't have a front plate on, but had it in the window. Less than two days after he got it we were pulled over for it and he was ticketed, even though he explained the situation.
