Our daughter and her 3 roommates are Fordham students and have each paid $900 for a total of $3600 rent each month, beginning January 1, 2018 in the Bronx. They have signed a 6 month Lease AND paid rental fees to a local realtor group.
There was NO heat and NO hot water upon moving in the first week of January. As of this writing today, there is STILL no heat or hot water. The mother & daughter landlord "team" has explained that they're missing, "parts" and sent up one area electric heater. They also offered for the students to use their bathroom for showers located one floor below.
Their guy has come twice, to no avail.
The students are now staying with friends at night because it's so cold. Their classes started yesterday. The parents are now getting involved, as the girls tried to work it out, to no avail. Nothing is changing. Not only has this been a horrible situation for these students, but these people gladly took their money, knowing the heat and hot water was broken!
Please advise us on what to do! We have yet to hear back from the Agent, who is usually very very professional, responsive & supportive.
Any advice would be helpful....who else can we call? How do we get them to get the parts they need asap? It's been one excuse after another!
And what is our recourse for this unethical, inconvenient, terrible situation in the dead of winter?
Would appreciate helpful advice and any contact information of agencies/individuals who can help us solve this problem immediately. Thank you.

Tell them to call 311 and report the lack of heat/hot water.

Agree. NYC loves to crack down on these sorts of things. If no relief there call de Blasio’s office and the local news team. That should get those “parts” moving.

I suggest moving this to the NYC forum rather than the NY State forum.
