My family is moving to Stone Ridge, NY for two years and we're looking for schools for our older daughter (kindergarten). We're zoned for Marbletown Elementary school, so I'd love to hear about that, but I'd also appreciate information or opinions on private schools in the area.

Thanks!

Hi! I think its a pretty small district. Some parts of the catskills are .... a little stuck behind the times. Which is too bad because they are some beautiful areas! you can do a search online for the school performance and stats to get an idea of what you are getting into. good luck!

What does "stuck behind the times" mean to you?

My son goes to Marbletown Elementary School. It is a nice school, and this is a beautiful area. My son was having reading difficulties in 1st grade. They did not wait to give him assistance- he received 1/2 hour of individual reading instruction by a specialist 5 days a week for half the school year. And he is not a special ed student. It worked- no problems reading now! There are before and after school programs which really help out working Moms. The parent teacher association is strong and there are some nice activities (we just had Heritage Day) It is rural here but we are not out in the boonies. I met my husband at New Paltz and we liked it enough to come back!

I have 2 children that went through elementary to high school here in Marbletown. They graduated in 1997 and 1999. They both are working now and doing well. So don't worry about being "stuck behind the time". Great schools here, and remember to VOTE .

Marbletown is an excellent elementary school. Check out the school's ratings and test scores, and you'll see it is consistently above average. The school doesn't hesitate to offer extra assistance to children who need it. It's a lovely area--Stone Ridge is my home town, and I would gladly move back.
