But both can be real marriages. There is no ideal marriage. Yet, I thought at the time, politically the worst thing HC did was stay with BC. She could have divorced him and been seen as more independent and powerful by doing that. I think they remained together out of love. Love as they see it, loyalty and devotion to each other. She may have lovers as he does, and so what, people. If they are open with that, who are the American people to judge ? Yet, they give a pass to a man who buys trophy wives, and then has affairs with porn actresses and playmates. I am not saying that is wrong either if they DT and MT agree to that as adults. But why one gets chastised and an other gets a pass from the Christian right, amazes me.

And it has nothing to do with alpha males per say. Property and money were passed down on along paternal lines and men wanted to know for sure they were leaving their MONEY/property to their children, especially their SONS.
Also if a woman sleeps with this one and that one, there's no incentive for a man to help raise her children that he might not be the father of. There was no DNA testing and advanced birth control (there were forms of birth control but not as effective as modern ones) until recently.
