I’ve been playing the guitar for 2 years but now I’ve decided to add saxophone to my list of instruments as it seems much more expressive to me. Can anyone advise me a good DVD set for beginners? No particular style, just the basics. Or what is the best way of learning to play this instrument? I don’t think I’d want private lessons as my goal is not becoming a professional, I just want to play for myself. Maybe distant lessons will do if they are not too expensive.

YouTube is your friend. Search "Saxophone Lessons", and you'll find plenty.

Also at Udemy:

Why don't you ask the moderators to move your post to the education forum? You will get better responses there. This forum is about discussions relating to New York State.

However, I will tell you that as a former saxophone teacher, if you have never played a wind instrument before, private lessons are your best method. You cannot learn proper embouchure effectively from watching videos. The sax is not like the guitar where you pluck a string and it automatically makes a sound.

Default Thanks.

Thanks for your answer. I think I'll just write another post there. It seems you're right and I'd better take some lessons with a teacher not to ruin everything from the start.
