This list of the top 22 HS's in Upstate NY is based off of information from News week rankings: 22 top high schools in Upstate NY, according to Newsweek | NewYorkUpstate.com

This is the list of the 25 biggest HS's in Upstate NY: 25 biggest high schools in Upstate NY | NewYorkUpstate.com

I know that a couple of these high schools are only 10-12 grade high schools(Cicero-North Syracuse and Fairport). So, if C-NS included 9th grade, it may be the biggest HS on the list.

I also wonder why Orange County high schools weren't included, but Dutchess County HS's were. If Orange County was included, Newburgh Free Academy, Monroe-Woodbury and Middletown are on that list, with perhaps some others(Minisink Valley, Valley Central, Pine Bush, Washingtonville and maybe Warwick). I think the list is also missing some other high schools like Elmira, Ithaca, Rochester's East High and Rome Free Academy, if not a few others.

Suprised to see Fairport make the list. I guess I always thought of it as a small(er) school compared to say Webster, Greece, and some of the other Rochester area schools. I guess it's because the other districts have multiple high schools while Fairport district only has the one, I'm guessing.

Yeah, Fairport is actually a bigger HS and they play in Class AA(state's biggest class) for sports. Rush-Henrietta, Victor, Gates-Chili, Hilton, Penfield and Churchville-Chili(maybe) are other examples of 1 HS districts that play in Class AA for all sports in the Rochester area.

The Rochester area is definitely well represented with 4 out of the top 5 schools listed I see.

Yes, it is just for public schools. If private schools were included, you may see schools like the Nichols School, the Park School, Allendale-Columbia, the Harley School, Manlius-Pebble Hill, the Albany Academies, Doane Stuart, Cascadilla Prep and maybe some of the Catholic high schools as well.

Are there any prep schools that are known for cultivating youth talent at the elite level, like Berkshire School (which is near upstate NY in any case).

The location alone of Northwood is highly suggestive.
