Hi all,
I recently started a job in Saugerties, NY and am looking to relocate closer to the area (Live in Newburgh now). I would like to stay within 20-30 minutes of Saugerties to keep down on gas and commuting costs. I am looking to rent an apartment and would like to find an area with reasonable rents, but I don't want to be in the middle of nowhere. I grew up in the Jersey shore area and am used to being in close proximity to shopping, bars, restaurants, etc. I am in my mid-twenties so I also want to be able to go out and have a good time on the weekends. I was thinking about the city of Kingston because there seems to be more there, but I don't know anything about the area. I would appreciate any help or advice you guys could provide. Thanks

Hi:
I would suggest the Highfalls, Rosendale, stone ridge, accord, section. Its about a 20 minute ride to saugerties on major highway's ( good when the winter is bad), and it much less cheaper on rent. All of Kingstons malls are 15 minutes down the road...close, and easy. For nightlife forget Kingston, its getting a lot of crime, and no one really goes out, you will be about 20 minutes from New Paltz which has a SUNY college and lots of nightlife if you live in the area I mentioned. Another 15 minutes and your in Poughkepsie with some good nightlife. I live here and its away and quiet, lots of old farms and such, hiking in the shwangunk mountains and yet close to everything, you can rent a house out here for around $1,000 a month with a yard.

Hope this helps.

ncchrist1....I would not move anywhere near accord or kerhonkson if I were you!!! There is NOTHING there. Kingston/Saugerties would be the best, They both have shopping near by more populated crime in kingston is not bad unless you go to the "bad" neighborhoods, theres way more good areas than bad..Saugerties has a few good places to go out especially in the summer...stay far away from stoneridge accord kerhonkson and rosendale unless you like the being secluded

If you want convenience, live between Saugerties and Kingston (town of Ulster). Not a whole lot of nightlife here but there are a lot of good restaurants and the outdoor recreation is top notch. To the latest poster, there are relatively few good jobs in Ulster County and rents/ real estate are more expensive than further upstate though still cheaper than NYC metro. Our proximity to NYC (2 hours) makes this a weekend house area, making rents and real estate higher than most local jobs can comfortably support
