My guess would be the main cause is due to the young and diverse military population from Fort Drum. From my military experience I would say the overall military population is pretty tolerance of other peoples (military and civilian) political views. At least certain ones...

Agreed and the people in the smaller cities in Upstate tend to be more moderate, give or take, in general.

Agreed. I work in Latham and most of the people I work with lean right but are basically centrists. We don't obsess about the things Liberals think we obsess over.
And we aren't just a bunch of "old white men" that's for sure. It's like the UN where I work, and we all get along and actually like each other!

I agree. When I lived in Watertown everyone I knew from that area and not affiliated with the military was more or less middle of the road on most politics, maybe slightly to the right, but never heavy one way or the other. Honestly I really enjoyed there. Just wish there were more higher paying employment opportunities.
