I am in the process of purchasing a home. This would be my first home purchase. I work in NYC, currently live in Rockland County, and I am trying to find an affordable location that I would be able to settle down with my partner, and raise a family. We found a home we love located in Monroe, near Round Lake. Whenever I get good reviews about the area, they are followed back with negative reviews. I am looking for some concrete information and recommendations. Monroe is the furthers we would move to make my commute longer, but we have not found success in Rockland County.
I used to live in Rockland as well and left this past July. We ruled out Monroe due to Kiryas Joel. Sorry for not having any specific information, but just make sure you are absolutely aware of what you are getting yourself into by looking at real estate in Monroe.

I would consider looking at New Jersey, plenty of great towns and potentially more commuting options than Orange County. As mentioned by the other poster KJ is one community I would not want to be near or even be in the same tax district.
What is considered to be affordable to you, OP? There are Metro-North stops in Tuxedo and Sloatsburg. So, perhaps parts of Orange County near those stops are worth a look.
If you didn't mind going a little bit further north, the Cornwall SD would be a good choice, that has a another stop within the school district as well.
