We will be moving to the Lake Luzerne area at the end of the school year (Stony Creek), and we have 3 children. I was wondering if anyone had any local information on child care, school systems, and just the general way of life. We are moving from Connecticut and are really in the dark about services up there. If anyone could help us we would really appreciate that! Thanks so much! Marcy and John

Default why lake luzurne?

Have you spent much time up there in Lake Luzurne? Just wondering because it will be quite the culture shock for you and the kids esp., coming from CT and (I'm assuming) a more suburban affluent area.

I lived in the Luzurne area for about 4 years, didn't have kids, but some good friends who grew up there and had nothing good to say about the school system, they got beat on every day, poor quality of schools...alot of rednecks and I don't want to give offense to people who live in the country, most are great people, but we have all met the mean redneck type and thats what my friends who grew up there had to say about thier years in school...

Of course they are all about 30 years old now so perhaps things have changed. You may want to try Glens falls, or Queensbury for better schools. Stony Creek may be a beautiful place for you to live, but you may be not giving your kids a great education out there. There are no services to speak of in Lake Luzurne, a small grocery, gas station and a couple little restraunts, the ice cream one is really good though! Glens Falls is where everyone goes for pretty much everything.

Wink Re: Lake Luzerne

Hello, I spent every summer in Lake Luzerne and I loved it! I always wanted to move there. I don't know about the schools there, but you might try a private school. Also Lake George is just a few miles away too. Your kids could go to school there. Lake George is a big town (well compared to Lake Luzerne) and has lots of people. It's really cool. I hope you like your new home. I am somewhat jealous. Have fun and good luck.
