Can anyone recommend some good safe towns for a family to live that are within one hour of Albany NY? Safe, good schools, etc?

This will probably get moved to the Albany forum, but what are you looking for exactly? I’m asking because there are quite a few options and more information would help narrow down where to look.

I would look at the Saratoga Spring/Ballston Spa area. Glens Falls area is nice too.

^This and the other usuals are Niskayuna, Clifton Park, Bethlehem, Guilderland and Colonie(particularly North Colonie, but South is good too), among others.

Niskayuna
Guilderland
East Greenbush
Saratoga Springs
Clifton Park

Cheaper options but still good public schools and safe:

Schuylerville
Greenwich
Scotia

Another lesser talked about community/SD that just popped in my head is Voorheesville. A smaller communiity with very good schools.
