Next month, I will be leisurely driving from Berkshire County, Massachusetts to Union County, New Jersey and would like to drive a scenic route through the Hudson River Valley of New York State.
My preference is to avoid major freeways, such as Interstates 87 and 684, for example.
Based on my preliminary research, my current route options include N.Y. State Road 22, the Taconic State Parkway, U.S. Route 9 and U.S. Route 9W.
Another option, although not located in New York State, is U.S. Route 7 in Connecticut and Massachusetts.
Of the above-referenced options, which driving route is the most scenic? Which route provides the best-overall driving experience?
Based on Google Streetview images, N.Y. 22 appears to be quite pastoral with rolling farmland and mountain vistas, whereas the Taconic State Parkway and U.S. Route 7 seem more forested and, therefore, less "open."
If time is not a concern then take 22 down to 84w. jump on the taconic and go. beyond that the scenery becomes more suburban/urban. Love that Rt 22. Chatham
enjoy
Driving on crowded 2 lane roads through numerous urban areas is no fun and all that you see on the Taconic Parkway are trees.
