Hello! Can people familiar with schools in Ithaca region compare these schools (elementary level):

Belle Sherman ES/EAC Montessori/ Waldorf

I heard Belle Sherman is good, but if this was an option, would you send your kid to a private school over it? Thanks!

Hopefully some with more specifics chimes in, but Ithaca City Schools are generally good academically and are highly rated in terms of Upstate NY school districts. A pretty culturally diverse SD from the administration, board of education and down to the students themselves. It is also diverse in terms of getting students from urban, suburban and rural environments as well.

I also see that “open enrollment” is allowed. Is there a public school that is better than others? I hear Cayuga Heights ES is good (and it looks better than Belle Sherman) even though the ranking on greatschools is not the best.

Cayuga Heights, the village, is pretty affluent for the area and is close to Cornell. So, that may play a part in terms of those sentiments as well.

I believe the Northeast Elementary also has its share of Cornell affiliated families as well. So, that could be another option as well. https://www.ithacacityschools.org/northeast

Here is the district NYSED Report Card, which allows you to view a range of information about each school in the district: https://data.nysed.gov/profile.php?instid=800000036448
