2 NY communities make the list from the Discoverer website: https://www.thediscoverer.com/blog/m...ign=1129470198

From the same website, Cooperstown makes this list: https://www.thediscoverer.com/blog/1...ign=1129470198

Montauk? They must be smoking the good stuff. Montauk is shot. It's more like the Jersey shore. If you find that romantic you got issues.

I hate these lists that expose hidden gems(like legit ones). Word gets out, everybody flocks to them, and then they are ruined. If and when I find paradise, I wont be bragging how great it is. In fact, the opposite.
I'll be telling everyone what a crime ridden depressed dump it is to keep people away.

It is too late for Skaneateles, but it is generally pretty pricy. So, it kind weeds people out naturally. When Dennis Conner of America’s Cup game and Derek Jeter know about it, it’s over.

I guess you could say Montauk could be romantic to a couple. Especially in September to early October when it is off season but the water is still relatively warm. That is a Long Island secret, the tourists are gone but the beaches are still nice.

Ck, I would nominate New Paltz, New York. I like the history but couple might love the Mohonk Mountain House.

New Paltz has changed too. Word got out and everyone moved in. I almost moved to that area like 10 years ago. I guess both places still retain their beauty but it's the traffic and congestion and element of people that ruin it.

^As mentioned earlier, it is too late for Skaneateles, which is already one of the most affluent communities in Upstate NY.

Other Finger Lake towns are affordable and more romantic but will remain unnamed because I don't want them ruined.

It may be too late already for some of them. I think the cities and some of the bigger villages will always have more of a balance.

I will say for Skaneateles, the further away from the lake, the more likely you are to find something more affordable.

There are plenty of not so nice towns here as well. Many need a major facelift. Problem is there is no industry here. Yes our lakes are beautiful, but we need more in life. Skaneateles is the only community I can think of that has become insane. Ithaca is overrun with college students, but without them, there is nothing in Ithaca. Without Hobart, Geneva dives even further into the abyss. Seneca Falls needs the Chiro College. That helps them float. Aurora has become insanely priced and there's literally nothing there except Wells College which is on the brink of closing. Lots of great tiny towns, but they need businesses to provide jobs so it doesn't become a ghost land. It can't all be about tourists.
