I have an middle school aged child who recently came out as transgender. I am very liberal but love living in the country. Generally, I get along with people regardless of political views, however, I do not like my kids being raised around ppl who are not tolerant of other races, religions, etc. I am concerned about raising my transgender child in a place that would be accepting. People keep telling me to move to NYC, but I love the country. Does anyone know of any more rural areas with schools with GSAs where families and students would be accepting and not treat my child as "other"? I am open to more suburban areas I guess if I can get a large plot of land for relatively cheap and there are horse stables, hiking trails, and lakes (or oceans) near by. Thanks!

Ithaca City SD actually covers some rural areas to the south of the city.

I would say you should be fine, provided you blend in with the locals and don't expect them to have to change to accommodate you. Maybe try around the Canandaigua area

Home schooling is legal in NYS. Why not try homeschooling?

You work from home or do you like long commutes? Also, home schoolers have get togethers at each others homes, at athletic venues, at restaurants and for field trips. They do meet other homeschooled children and make new friends. Bullying in such circumstances is non existent.

Try eastern Long Island.
All of the city folk have moved out there.
It is becoming heavily liberal so I would expect that it will be trending very tolerant and accepting in the coming years.
And for now at least, it still has a rural feel.
I think it would be a good match.

Of course eastern Long Island has become "heavily liberal" they keep voting Democrat! As for having a child that is "transgender" please note that "transgender" is a term a lot of people in the LGBT community use to describe themselves. Many of them have normal bodily functions and simply want to dress as another gender that makes them a crossdresser so please get yourself educated before you do anything you might regret. As for where to move, you don't need to move as your child will need to face reality anywhere and learn to be who they really are on their own.
