We are considering where my son's grandmother can move to be near us. Either to rent or to buy. Not Atria type of place, but an apartment on second floor or higher, with elevator (she has hip issues and stairs are becoming difficult). On our wishlist are low crime (obviously) and a sense of history/culture/the arts/walkable/parks/mountain views. Where she can walk to shoppes and grocery without needing her car. An easy drive to West Point area, not more than 30 minutes. Is that reasonable? Want to be able to reach her easily to help her or for visits. Either side of river is ok... We've thought of Beacon, Fishkill, New Paltz. Should we be considering south of us? Warwick type of feel would be perfect but that area is a bit far, a good 45 minutes. I know these are a lot of items on list. Any ideas would be welcome, thank you!

Perhaps places such as Washingtonville and Cornwall are a couple of other places to consider.

Does anyone live in neighborhoods with walkable Main Streets, nice apartments close by, and where there are lots of activities you see seniors participating in? I know that Covid has changed this presently, but what neighborhoods were good before.

Are you able to check out any of these communities for yourself? Beacon sounds like what you are looking for. Personally, I like Nyack and it would fit. It is a little over 30 minutes from West Point though(38 minutes).
