Best place for a family to live if working in Middletown (White Plains: school district, places to live)

A family of 4, 2 young children coming from Queens, NY. What are some of the better nearby towns, less than 40 min away from Middletown?

Prefer good school district, quaint architecture, some things to do with kids, a bookstore, a library, a nice food market with gourmet products, and a couple of good restaurants. I have not been to many upstate towns, namely Ghent, Hudson, White Plains, Poughkeepsie (very briefly). I like Montclair, NJ layout just for reference, and I loved how beautiful Ghent was.

Would really appreciate some suggestions of possible places to live around Middletown. Thanks!

Parts of Middletown itself may work, given that it has a 90% graduation rate. I’d say parts of nearby Scotchtown in the Pine Bush and Goshen SD’s would be a good choice. It is more standard suburbia though.

Given what you’ve mentioned, Goshen or Warwick would be a couple of good choices.
