The roads in NY are the worse I have seen in decades. And the idiots in government will not do anything until people raise hell.
What is wrong with people?...Aren't you drivers angry about this nonsense, or are you all too docile?
The roads are wrecking your cars and damaging your front end, tires...
(Yes..I complain to my county and state reps).
The powers that be in NYS would prefer you to ride the subway, the bus or bicycle. All of these things are subsidized by the gasoline tax. Only makes sense in a liberal state.

People think it's normal to live this way. That every road in the country looks like ours. I personally love when they replace a road by me, and then break it up a week later for some ridiculous utility repair. Why would the right hand talk to the left?

Bingo!!!
I saw that exact thing happen, back when I was a teenager. One of the primary streets near my home was being resurfaced, and I have to say, the town did it right. They scraped right down to the initial layer of pavement, must have removed 3-4" of old, beat up asphalt. Fixed a few nasty areas of curbing, then put down a nice, smooth layer of asphalt. 5-6 weeks later, they were digging up a section, to fix a broken water main...

do you live in the Buffalo area by any chance? Happens allllll the tine here...
I drive over 2,000 miles (at a time) across the country from the Southwest to New York twice a year, every year, sometimes I take a southern(ish) route, and other times I go a more northerly route. If you think New York's roads are bad, you ain't seen nothing.
I mean, don't get me wrong, they aren't the best, but compared to other states that deal with similar effects of winter (freeze/thaw, potholes) there are much worse, and comparatively it is an issue of even more neglect in other states compared to NY.
Overall, the state of American roads and bridges is a complete embarassment compared to other developed countries.

I wonder how many of those other places with horrific roads, pay through the nose in SALT that we do? I think that's where the anger and disgust come in. I wouldn't mind the roads if my monthly property tax bill wasn't what it is. Not to mention, the revenue they get from the bridges. Millions of dollars A DAY just from the GW. That thing is atrocious. Looks like a bridge in a third world country.

Right..and a perfect example is the Mario Cuomo Bridge...The Governors big beautiful project to memorialize his family...About 1 month after its opening, they ripped up a lane...Plus they then had to close/restrict lanes for months because they seemed to neglect to put in bus lanes...(you know, those lanes we've had since the 70s). What a joke!

What about bicycle lanes? Was it built to "complete street" standards?

Mario Cuomo Bridge? Never heard of it. So far as I know there is only one bridge crossing the Tappan Zee.
