Does anyone know why New York is so anti Bitcoin and anti other cryptocurrencies?

The article states that global mining for crypto's emits around 53 megatons of carbon dioxide annually, and New York should not be a part of it... only that's not what AG Letitia James said. She basically said that crypto is too high risk and that people can easily gamble and lose their money and livelihoods - no mention about global warming, so this makes me suspect.

I think that the privately owned federal reserve and central banks are shaking that people have the potential to be out of debt and therefore not be easily controlled, and so they have their puppets use climate change and other excuses to ban people from making money that is untied to the central banks. I think they are also fearful the US dollar may collapse.

It's interesting to note how other countries have huge mining farms with dedicated servers and sophisticated hardware mining for cryptos to enrich themselves apart from the central banks.

Think about it.. politicians here talk about financial livelihoods, yet they don't care that gambling centers are legal in this city nor do they care about taking private planes nor Ubers up and down DC and NYC. So much for climate change.

Without Indian Point and no new pipelines, NY won't have the energy for Bit Coin mining.

Get ready for the rolling black outs.

I don't, but I know that state threads belong in the state forum.

Better get to Plattsburgh quickly...

https://plattsburghbtc.com/

More, Cryptocurrency firm in Plattsburgh fights $1 million electric charge: https://www.northcountrypublicradio....lectric-charge

Bitcoin mining continues in the North Country amid price swings, rate battles: https://www.timesunion.com/news/arti...y-15056824.php

It has had some swings down as well...In Upstate New York, the Bitcoin Mining Rush Has Gone Bust: https://www.govtech.com/fs/in-upstat...gone-bust.html

Then, there was this, Plattsburgh Turns Back Invasion Of Bitcoin Miners: https://www.forbes.com/sites/danield...h=2d0fa30d4b5b

Luckily...Plattsburgh Ends Cryptocurrency Moratorium: https://www.wamc.org/post/plattsburg...ncy-moratorium

So, that is where this is occurring already in the state and better get up there, just in case.

They are only concerned about reaching the arbitrary goals set for "green house gases", and these operations use a lot of energy, I guess.

It does prove one major point, however, that NYS is much more concerned about a perceived danger, than they are concerned about NYer's having a way to earn a living, and be free.

I think it may go back to situations like this one that occurred in Endicott: https://www.epa.gov/hwcorrectiveacti...icott-new-york

https://www.syracuse.com/specialrepo...s_polluti.html

https://wbng.com/2019/11/21/40-years...s-still-toxic/

So, it can be a slippery slope in terms of letting industry do its thing, but also not at the expense of the environment or the people that live near that industry, in some way, shape or form.

That and the large electricity expense of mining bitcoins would make people not want to allow it, yeah.

I don't know why anyone would want to do bitcoin mining in NYS. There not geographical advantage, and electric prices are not particularly low.

If I were doing this, I'd set up an operation in Canada, either near Montreal or Winnipeg. Electric rates are less than half, and their colder. In addition to the power to run the computers, the computers give off a vast amount of heat (from all that electricity they use), that has to be drawn away from the computers. Usually this requires large banks of air conditioners. But much of the year in Canada, they could probably just use outside air to cool the computers.

Plattsburgh was picked for Bitcoin mining due to its relatively lower electric rates. It is one of the places on the NYPA map I posted to another one of your posts in another thread. The nearby village of Rouses Point is also a NYPA customer that has its own municipal electric company. Lake Placid, a community mentioned in one of the articles is another NYPA customer. Some information: https://www.cityofplattsburgh-ny.gov...ing-department

Not all NYers have either National Grid, Rochester Gas & Electric, NYSEG, Con Edison, PSEG, Central Hudson Gas & Electric, etc.
