They have shut down most of the traditional power plants.

If we want to survive as a country, we need to aggressively embark on a major nuclear program.

I think the government loves the EV's as they have limited distance they can travel, and it helps to keep us under their thumb

This is a pretty silly take on things, because it's not like quantity doesn't play a factor in anything as you can certainly drown from having too much water even if it's the lifeblood of most living things.

Solar and wind plants have productive lives that are a lot longer on average than just a few years and if you're worried about the levelized cost from the need to replace, then it's kind of crazy to single out solar or wind since they have essentially no consumables during their operating lives compared to traditional power plants or nuclear and they have far lower replacement or decommissioning costs than nuclear. The levelized cost of production over the lifespan of most solar and wind projects around the world at this point is lower than new generation from just about any other source and we're now reaching territory where they're cheaper versus new sources even with storage factored in or continued usage of existing non-renewable power plants. The really old solar and wind plants that will be up for replacement after probably a couple decades of service themselves probably have lower levelized costs when factoring in replacement since the early projects were often sited in fairly optimal conditions for the region and meanwhile their replacements are generally much more efficient and cheaper per kWh.

Remember, it's not like India, China, the Persian Gulf countries, etc. have such a loving relationship with ecology and environmental protection that they've put so much renewable energy electricity generation online over the last few years--it's because it's cheaper.

I would like to see an aggressive pursuit of new nuclear technologies and electricity production plants though. That'd be great. Unfortunately, we have a lot of dumb dumbs in this country that don't seem to really have an interest or ability in the STEMS field which is why we still have really dumb statements like nuclear plants are point blank no good no matter the type or the siting, or that "every living creature on the planet exhales" and therefore CO2 emissions on a massive scale don't matter.

Yeah, it's a HUGE DEAL. The vast majority have zero interest in buying an electric car. And the idiots actually think that there is enough alternate energy to charge them, while providing all our energy needs.

These people are NUTS.

Apparently our idiot politicritters in Albany snuck this in while no one was paying attention. Did anyone here anything about this in the news while they were working on it? If this news had gotten out statewide before it happened, they would likely have gotten push back and had to drop it.

Hopefully they'll be some sort of federal preemption against this and it will get squashed.
A bit of research and an ability to comprehend what one reads should alleviate much of the angst brought on by the inaccurate headline here. There is no law banning the sale of any vehicles at any time. The text of the law says this:
Section 1. The environmental conservation law is amended by adding a
new section 19-0306-b to read as follows:
§ 19-0306-B. ZERO-EMISSIONS CARS AND TRUCKS.
1. IT SHALL BE A GOAL OF THE STATE THAT ONE HUNDRED PERCENT OF NEW
PASSENGER CARS AND TRUCKS OFFERED FOR SALE OR LEASE, OR SOLD, OR LEASED,
FOR REGISTRATION IN THE STATE SHALL BE ZERO-EMISSIONS BY TWO THOUSAND
THIRTY-FIVE. IT SHALL BE A FURTHER GOAL OF THE STATE THAT ONE HUNDRED
PERCENT OF MEDIUM-DUTY AND HEAVY-DUTY VEHICLES OFFERED FOR SALE OR
LEASE, OR SOLD, OR LEASED, FOR REGISTRATION IN THE STATE BE ZERO-EMIS-
SIONS BY TWO THOUSAND FORTY-FIVE FOR ALL OPERATIONS WHERE FEASIBLE. IT
SHALL BE FURTHER A GOAL OF THE STATE TO TRANSITION TO ONE HUNDRED
PERCENT ZERO-EMISSIONS OFF-ROAD VEHICLES AND EQUIPMENT BY TWO THOUSAND
THIRTY-FIVE WHERE FEASIBLE.
Note it says this is a goal of the state, not binding law with associated penalties for noncompliance.

Now we must ask the OP if they were duped by others in creating a false scenario for devious purposes or is the OP himself the one doing the duping for devious purposes.

Actually it basically does ban dino fueled vehicles, because you’ll never get “zero” emissions.

No, this (your post) is the first that I'm hearing about it. Funny, however, that you never see anything FIRST, about beefing up the power grid, in order to handle the extra load that this will put on our current (pun intended) electrical system. I have a couple of friends that are electricians, by trade, and they've both mentioned that our power grid, today, by their observation, is running close to max capacity.

Ok. It's 2047. Gas powered cars have not been sold for years now in NYS. Gas stations have gone out of business in NYS. It's summer and I want to drive from Bangor Maine to Cleveland Ohio. I am driving my gasoline powered vehicle. I am about to run out of gas near Syracuse NY. What do I do?

Really? They pay lip service to renewables. But when they actually need power generation...

Another thread on this subject. "Green" energy is not as green as it is presented, nor as viable.

Simple truth is there's too many human beings on this planet.
We're like a virus destroying Earth (from The Matrix).
