From the Buffalo Business Journal.
"Buffalo moved up in the U.S. News & World Report’s latest Best Places to Retire list.
Buffalo broke into the top 100, ranking 99th in the 2021-22 rankings for Best Places to Retire, an improvement from 126th last year. Buffalo still ranked below New York City, Albany, Rochester and Syracuse.
The rankings are determined using factors including health-care quality, housing affordability, retiree taxes, desirability and the job market. This year, U.S. News & World Report also considered an overall happiness index, measured by murder and property crime rates and air quality data.
The list evaluated the 150 most populated metro areas in the country and conducted a nationwide survey of people ages 45 and up.
Nearly one-quarter of Americans who are near or at retirement said the pandemic has changed their preference on where to live, according to a recent U.S. News & World Report survey.
Other New York state cities that improved in the rankings are: New York City, 41st last year to 32nd this year; Rochester, from 63rd last year to 55th; and Syracuse, leaping from 121st last year to 49th this year.
Albany fell from 56th to 74th this year.
A breakdown of the score’s and the full Best Places to Retire rankings are on the U.S. News & World Report website."
