A recent local real estate transaction caught my attention. A now, 2nd local farm, has been bought by representatives for Chinese mainlanders. I was aware of this going on in Texas and other states..but not aware of it happening in upstate NY. For the record, US citizens/companies can lease, but not own property in mainland China.
I'm not surprised, as this has been occurring in NYC and the growth of the Chinese population Upstate likely plays a part in this. Ithaca has a relatively big Chinese population, for an example.
This is similar to Bangledeshis buying property in Buffalo and even offer cash to people that own property on Buffalo's East Side, a historically predominantly black area of that city. In fact, my parents were offered cash for their house during a garage sale that had several years ago from someone of South Asian descent. So, examples of this involving other groups has been going on as well and are catching on.
The Chinese own most of the property and land in Seattle as well. They own most of America’s land and property though. It’s the way it is.
