I stayed in Lansing during the summer. It's a very nice place, not as crowded as Ithaca but with many amenities like gyms, supermarkets and Target.

Yes, you are referring to the Triphammer Marketplace/Ithaca Mall area along Route 13. It is a combination of rural and suburban. It is close to parts of Cornell University and has the local airport as well.
