We're enjoying those street views you provided ckhthankgod. Now we are getting amped up about this move!
After identifying the Waterfront neighborhood in Buffalo as a potential area to target I want to use it as an example of some things we like. It seems like a peaceful, well kept, tidy neighborhood tucked away yet convenient to all of the amenities we want (with possible water and skyline views which would be amazing.) It looks a little idyllic with a walking path and the water and nearby park and attractive townhouse complexes, but right outside the neighborhood is cool downtown Buffalo. This is all just my impression from photos, maps/ street view, and this video
We were in NY a couple months ago and drove through Albany, Syracuse, Rochester, and Buffalo. Thought they all looked like cool cities, but we didn't spend any real time in any of them, it was just a quick first-impressions tour. For example we didn't see that Waterfront neighborhood in Buffalo (wish we had known about it.) I went into the Buffalo office, wife and I stayed in Amherst though, not the city. Several Buffalo colleagues had recommended Amherst and after looking around that town my wife specifically said she liked the Snyder neighborhood and some of Williamsville around Main St.
It looks quiet and peaceful in that Franklin Square area. I like the look of Armory Square. It's the brick buildings, they always look nice every time of year.

Yes, it is generally quiet, but has some activity due to some companies and businesses/restaurants in the area.
Armory Square is pretty nice, but I’d say that Hanover Square is more low key. Armory Square gets more of the attention in terms of nightlife, but Hanover Square has some too.
A couple of other areas in Syracuse that gets some nightlife are Westcott on the East Side east of the University and Tipperary Hill, a historically Irish(and more recent Ukrainian) West Side neighborhood with some pubs/bars. The Crouse-Marshall north of the University gets college kids, but will have more of a mix during the day due to area employees(hospitals and higher Ed institutions).
Buffalo is going to have more of those options for you especially Indian and Japanese. We have a huge Bangladesh community here and they have built many great restaurants all around the city, and they are very very good.
We also have many Japanese restaurants, wether you like Thai, Hibachi or want to sit down with a plated entree.
I would recommend, Kyoto or Fuji grill for Hibachi. Mr. Chows for a bar/ sit down restaurant and the Thai house on transit road.

Binghamton is a smaller area, but you also have a suburban town such as Vestal, which is has a good sized Asian population(about 11% or so) and is where Binghamton university is located. So, that could be another community to consider in the area.

There are some other places some may go as well.
Speaking of the bolded Downtown Syracuse district and views, this building is the tallest in the city and has apartments and businesses on the lower level: https://statetowersyracuse.com/
You could likely get great views of Onondaga Lake, the hills/valleys to the south and maybe even Lake Ontario in the distance to the north on a clear day.
What is also nice is that you are a block or two away from Clinton Square, which has outdoor ice skating in the winter and festivals though much of the other seasons(Taste of Syracuse, Jazz festivals, Polish Fest, Juneteenth, a weekly farmer’s market, etc.). https://www.visitsyracuse.com/things...linton-square/
You can still go to Armory Square, some businesses/restaurants on South Salina Street, the War Memorial Arena/Civic Center/OnCenter for events and more Downtown as well. There’s also the Connective Corridor bus line that connects Downtown with the University Hill area as well.
Also OP, if you don’t mind me asking, is your current location urban or suburban? I ask given the different preferences given for you and your spouse and perhaps that would give posters an idea of the type of neighborhood that fits the description of your current neighborhood.
