I am looking for the most family friendly towns around Brewster NY. Lots of kids, great schools, good neighborhoods. My children are 18 months and 7 years old. Any suggestions?

Southeast, Mahopac, Carmel, Patterson - all of these are family friendly, with great neighborhoods.

IMO, Brewster, Carmel, Stormville, etc... all have good schools. Your kids will be ok. The neighborhoods are pretty much good, with nothing but houses. Are you looking to buy or rent? I am over in Beacon which has vastly improved since the early 90's.

What happened to Beacon during the 90's?
We will be purchasing. We're meeting with a realtor this weekend and looking at Mahopac and Carmel so far. We'll have a chance visit some towns before we meet with him so it's good to have a check list.

Anything wrong with Brewster?
volleyhead:
I noticed you asked about places "around Brewster." I wonder if there's something you don't like about Brewster itself?
I ask because I am considering a move there myself, from NYC.

Just moved to Brewster, NY
We just moved to Brewster in October from New Haven, CT. It's been okay--definitely less to do than before and we're missing friends and family. My preschooler seems to be the most affected--he's really missing his old school, his old house and his old friends.
Does anyone have any tips for fun mom's groups, play groups or other extra-curriculars (especially those that aren't super expensive) in Putnam? I'm hoping that if I get us involved he'll feel better about the move.
Thanks!
