I actually work with a guy that grew up near this community and he states that they just want to be left alone. Many helped the local community when there was flooding in the area in the past. He also told me how children in the community even tried sending their children to a couple of local school districts, but unfortunately there were some conflicts with some other children within these districts. Some have even married locals(he mentioned a cousin of his) and have left the community as well. So, it is essentially a primarily African American Muslim version of many of the different communities that are scattered in the Catskills/Hudson Valley like Watchtower(Jehovah Witnesses) in Ulster County or the Jewish communities.
