Lackawanna has had a long time community located near the former Bethlehem Steel mill/not too far from Lake Erie for decades, as many came from the South for work. It is and has always been an ethnically diverse company town known probably more for its Polish population. In recent years, it has had some people of Middle Eastern and Hispanic backgrounds move into the city. It is also known for its usually good HS Football teams(Ron Jaworski and Mike Mamula are from the city) and occasionally its Basketball teams, which are appropriately named the Steelers.
