Saratoga Springs has a pretty big nightlife, especially during track season. Lot's of cover bands playing your classic rock favorites with a slightly older crowd than typical college towns.
#1- Saratoga Springs... Beautiful town with over 30 bars, resturants... track season is like Mardi Gras but off-track season is pretty fun as well.
#2- Buffalo, NY- Although I haven't been there in 10 years... Buffalo had/ has? one of the best bar scenes east of Chicago. Chippewa St. was zoned specifically for bars and restraunts and niteclubs... Elmwood St. is where Buff state hangs and Central is great for UB students. CPG, Heenan's, Concrete, The Atomic... not sure if they are still opened, but they were great bars a decade ago.
#3-The Hamptons- Yep if you've got a friend who can get you in a beach party, or wait on line long enough for the Boiny Bar, Neptunesor the Surf lounge... nitelife is great, just remember to bring your Am-Ex...
#4- Lake George... Summertime's a blast... winter's a ghost town. Still for bar hopping in warm weather, lakeside it's great!
#5-Albany, NY... not just a college town or the state capital... Albany is a well rounded city with lots of character and culture. Pearl St has 6-7 bars and niteclubs, including The Bayou... one of the best bars in the northeast. Books great bands from all over NY and New England and the sound and lights are great.
#6- Fredonia... a small college town, yet at one time it had the highest ratio of bars/businesses on it's Main St. Last count for me was 12-15 bars.
#7-White Plains- The Thirsty Turtle, Brazen Fox, The Vintage... 4-5 class A nightclubs that offer dancing and/or live music.
#8-Long Island- Too many communities to mention... Farmingdale, Babylon, Wantuagh,... all have bars, night clubs that cater to Long Island's movers and shakers. Just don't D&D. DWI in Nassu County is expensive and the po-po are always out in full force.
#9- Newburgh, NY- Yes, NY's most notorious has a new Riverwalk with a bunch of great resturants, bars and niteclubs. There are also River Cruises that offer 3-4 hour cruises with food and beverage.
#10- Nyack- A short hop from NYC... Nyack offers an electic downtown with a bunch of bars and resturants you can walk to. Zoo Bar, Bourbon St. and the Black Bear Saloon are just a few classy places.
-Chippewa street in Buffalo
-East End in Rochester
-Armory Square in Syracuse
-Pearl Street in Albany
-Saratoga
The entertainment districts in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Albany are all pretty good and offer a wide range of different bars and music venues. Buffalo will offer the most since its a bigger city, followed by the other three, left to right.
Saratoga is fun in the summer but in the winter is kinda dead minus some college kids.
There are a bunch of college towns spread out all over NY (Fredonia, Geneseo, Oswego, Plattsburgh, New Paltz, etc). The night life is a typical college night life which is not my bag.
