BTW, I agree with you about Albany -- Rochester's OK, but Albany has the more central location to "the rest of the world . . . "
I've been to Albany many times for work (we have an office there) and I disagree that it is a good place to live. Maybe I am just not seeing the right things, and I understand other people have different things they look for. It is convenient to drive to several cities, but if that is your argument "Albany...it is easy to get out of here", then I think you are making your argument about where to live obvious. I don't know if it has changed recently, but I once was trying to fly out of Albany and the prices are ridiculous to get anywhere, so be sure to balance that with taking an hour flight to NYC on JetBlue for $50.

No flights from Jetblue for $50...aint gonna happen bro unless your talking one way. Someone told me you could do it for $100 and I couldn't even find roundtrip for for that price. Maybe every Febuary 29th or something like that.

And yes Albany people do like to leave their town once in a while...we call it traveling. Alot of people are doing it these days; probally just a fad.

And when you live just less than 3 hours from the Capital of the World (NYC) and Boston, and Montreal (3.5 hours) you tend to go there alot. And it is an advantage that you do not have to fly, actually most of my peeps take the train. You get on the train, drinks some beers and then bam...you in NYC or bean-town.

But Albany gets my vote for the city itself. I enjoy the activites provided. Por ejemplo....every thursday is a free concert in the empire state plaza, and then downtown is closed for a block part...open container laws do not apply. I like to wonder around downtown with a frosty beverage. Last week I saw an oiled up midget pass out on Herman Melvilles childhoold home. Now that my friend...that is history and nightlife all at once.

But I like Rochester too...I think it is a good town...its a cute place. I like the Garbage plate and I also like the midwestern...nice people attitude, reminds me of Grand Rapids. It is my second choice for upstate behind Albany, but ahead of Syracuse and Buffalo.

I think the wegmans hype is something they pay for for positive press. I really don't see too many people ranting and raving about wegmans unless the topic of shopping is brought up. Its a great store and everything, I just don't see too many people hyping it around here.

OK, I won't post on this topic anymore because it is just getting petty, but yes, $50 to get to NYC, like I said. And another $50 to get back from NYC. To pick a random flight, look at ROC-JFK at 8:30am on Thursday July 12. Anyways, if you are seriously trying to decide where to move, I would recommend checking out the July issue of US Airways Magazine (usairwaysmag.com). It is featuring Rochester. Likewise, they covered Albany before at Profile Albany, NY

I just want to know what hell that Rochester accent is all about. A guy from Rochester just starting working in our office here in Smallbany and I swear to God I thought he was from Chicago- he sounds just like "Da Bears" skit on SNL...I call him Ditka, he has no clue what I'm talking about.

yes....Rochester has that quintessential Great Lakes accent...technicaly it's called the "northern cities vowel shift"....Rochester, pronounced by it's lifelong residents, is really "Raaaach'str". "O"s become "Ah"s, and "a" is extremely exaggerated". I love it.

Rochester has an inferiority complex. Wegmans is a super market...been many times. To think its somehow better than Stop and Shop or Price Chopper is pure manure.

I dont particularly care for Albany either....but easy proximity to NYC, Boston, Saratoga, Berkshires, Adirondacks, and Montreal will beat easy access to Buffalo, Hamilton, Utica, Syracuse, Toronto and the Finger Lakes any day in my book.

This is what folks from Rochester brag about as their local cuisine...

Wow what did you get dumped by a Wegmans checkout girl? Wegmans is the most amazing grocery store in the world and blows away anything else out there...here's a testimonial: stars come into Rochester and visit the Monroe Ave store and rant how they want one in Beverly Hills......Cher was here two summers ago and couldn't believe the selection of produce they had. That's what Weggies does best: brings the entire world to our doorstep. No better than Price Chopper or Stop and Shop???? It's them and every other grocery store in existence combined......

No Wegmans girl dumping...my trip to Wegmans was to buy Zweigels to bring back home after spending a week for work out in WNY. I live in Connecticut and fortunately not Rochester. Its on the wrong side of progressive and progress...with an overhyped supermarket (I've also been to the one in Fayetteville in Syracuse).

What specifically in Wegmans is SOOO much better our markets in New England.....please enlighten us. Cher liked Wegmans....does Cher even eat?
