Does anyone have suggestions about Sullivan Cty. Looking to relocate from Delaware. What is the best area for taxes and homes. Looking for the small town atmosphere. Schools not a concern. The quaint victorian style towns is what I am seeking. Trying to stay about 1-2 hours form NYC
Sullivan County will put you at a minimum of about 2 hours from NYC. The upper tip of Orange County will place you about 1 1/2 hours - 1 hr 45 mins to the city. For the small town atmosphere I would recommend Ulster County, NY. It is roughly the same distance (maybe a little closer) but has many small towns/villages to choose from. I'm a real estate agent in Orange County and I can tell you that with the exception of Warwick there aren't really any "small town" villages to be found anymore and Warwick, being one of the few remaining, is priced accordingly. Taxes will also be lower in Ulster and they have more choices when it comes to price ranges in homes. The issue with Orange County, which can be as close as 50 minutes to NYC, is that it is heavily populated with NYC commuters now which has caused a massive explosion of building and kind of taken out the rural, small town feel of the area. I certainly don't mind the start of bustling suburbs but others may feel differently.
Foxfire, out of curiosity why are you leaving Delaware County? We live in Delaware Cty. and love it! Are you originally from there and want something different, or do you want/need to be closer to the city?
Just say no I don't live in De Cty I live in the state of Delaware. Originally from notheastern NJ ( Bergen Cty) looking to move back closer to family (kids still live in Bergen) looking in Pa Pike cty & Wayne) and now Sullivan cty NY. Want to stay no more than 2 hours away from Bergen Cty NJ
FoxFire, what kind of home are you looking for? Townhome/condo/single family/active adult? Each part of upstate New York offers something different.
