Hey everyone, just so people know i dont live in the adirondacks but I do visit every summer, and what I want to know is what the effect our unfortunate economy is having on the second home owners and permanent residents of the adirondacks?

Last time I checked the adirondacks had 130,000 year round residents, has that possibly decreased?

There might be 130,000 people living near the Adirondacks (like near Glens Falls), but actually within the park itself, I'm pretty sure it does not exceed 70,000 residents.

Recently moved into the Adirondack Park (august). Middle income with 3 children in college and one still in high school. Can't honestly say that we have seen any dramatic impact on our day to day lives. We liquidated a couple of IRA's to buy property and build our house but figured that this was a better investment than watching the values plummet as time went on.

I'm sure that there are many higher income earners that were effected more dramatically and houses are generally not selling but I see no end to the tourist traffic as we are surrounded by rental properties.

I am postive that there are many lower income earners that have been truly hurt (unemployment) but don't believe that has any higher impact on those that live in the Park vs not.
