Okay,

[mod]moved/mod]

I wanted to ask questions about Ithaca, I've been there before and its beautiful but I am interested in returning (possibly before the summer ends or next summer if I don't follow through with my other plans) and I want to visit some gorges and waterfalls. I mainly want to cliff dive with a few buddies and I heard Ithaca has some good cliff and gorges to dive off of.

Some guy was telling me but he didn't really elaborate on it much. Can anyone tell me some good places to do that in Ithaca and where I should go?

Or any other place in NY state general where its fun to go cliff diving. I've been wanting to do that really badly for a while now. Thanks.

There's an official spot in R.H. Treman State Park (NY 13 south of Ithaca) with a diving board and all. Or is that not what you meant...

Lital_the_Best - I travel to Ithaca on occasion and love its scenic beauty, culture and entertainment as well, I think you will find the following links to be helpful.

Visitor Info - Visit Ithaca

YouTube - Ithaca Cliff Jumping

I don't know if this is of any help, but good luck, be safe and have fun!!!

I've never done it myself, but I've seen people go diving along the trail at Buttermilk from quite ridiculous heights. That's pretty much right on the main trail, not difficult to find. If you go on a nice day you'll probably find some folks to give advice. There are also some unofficial swimming/wading holes around Treman but that might be more mellow than what you're looking for.

Well, the two spots that immediately come to mind are Buttermilk Falls along the trail (which tchemgrrl mentioned), and a spot off of Sackett Bridge on the northeast edge of Cornell University's campus (acutally, there are a couple of spots in that area, between Hemlock Falls and Beebe Lake). Be advised though, people have seriously injured themselves by not checking out the area before they dived, so use proper caution.

I have never heard of any place around Ithaca where it is LEGAL to cliff dive.

Occasionally you do get college students who DROWN by swimming in dangerous off-limits areas underneath waterfalls, though.
