I am looking for a gay, friendly, place to live. My partner and I have a son, our family is multiracial and we are just looking for a place that is accepting of our type of diversity or differences? Any suggestions, anyone please?

Gay... family?
My suggestion is NYC, I've never seen more gays than in that city, and they are very overt and open about it. The only city that comes close is Orlando. NYC is very multicultural

Cities like Atlanta and Houston would surprise you then, in terms of the Gay populations there.

I second Ithaca, NY.
My wife and I were scouting a diverse and very liberal community and we came up with Ithaca. We visited it for several days and fell in love with it. I saw multiple gay families with child(ren) and nobody gave them a second look. On one of the Ithaca community webpages there is a listing of all the awards Ithaca has received and one of them was best places for Gays/Lesbians to live.
Take a trip with your family and see how it goes. There are a lot of waterfalls/gorges around and a lot of great restaraunts. It is an awesome place - especially if you are looking to get away from all of the housing developments and strip malls that dominate the rest of America. It is just so refreshing to visit.
The only thing holding my family from moving to Ithaca right now is trying to find a decent paying job I qualify for.
Another community I came up with was New Paltz, NY. I haven't visited it yet or been able to find as much information about it, but I did come accross an article about how the mayor of New Paltz got into trouble for trying to mary gay couples in his community in 2004 or 2005.
Best of luck. If you come up with any good Gay Family friendly places to live, post them here! Although my family is much more traditional than yours, communities that are open and accepting to gay families are the type of liberal places we are looking to move to.

Northampton Ma is very gay friendly and great place for gays and straights to raise their children. Lots of "Live and Let Live" attitude. With colleges all around and the center of town being very pedestian friendly it is a great place to live, work, study, and raise children. It is very scenic and has easy access to the highway. Because of all these attractive reason to live there the housing prices are higher than area towns, so be prepared to pay. But it is Soo worth it.

Sheltered much? There are a large number of gay families. Moms and Dads come out later in life, gay men and women adopt, and lesbians are having children in-vitro. It's not a big deal anymore, for most.
Also, according to your extensive travels Orlando is second to NYC in terms of gay-openness? That's kind of funny, as someone who used to live there. Even funnier is the novelty of how overt gay people in these two cities are. No one seems to track or mind overt heterosexuality, which many find unappealing, so why is overt homosexuality an issue here? Anyway, back on track...
I'd highly recommend a small city like Burlington, Vermont. It's quite liberal, has excellent schools, a decent economy, is very safe/low crime and it's a supportive/welcoming community that is open to diversity.

Inlet/Old Forge, NY - small towns, great school, beautiful scenery and although there is not a huge gay or multiracial population - we all have quirks up here, accept us, we will welcome you!
