Have you ever took a look at the census on congressional district 15 (Uptown Manhattan). Third poorest district in the USA. Factor in living cost and it is the second poorest.

Rent cost may be going up when it comes to market rate property, but so is the number of strictly low income housing. And by far the majority of that neighborhood is low income.

Harlem is not a middle class Black neighborhood in any way whatsoever.

Cambria Heights is actually a middle class area populated by Blacks. The OP wants a middle class neighborhood, not a ghetto with a few yuppies.

Lakeview on Long Island is middle class, mainly black neighborhood, next to Rockville Center. As other posters have noted, Cambria Heights is a nice area with well kept homes, and a thriving business area on Merrick Road.

You won't believe how beautiful Cambria Hieghts is. Tree lined streets with tudor and colonial homes, very impressive. Bladwin Long Island is also a very integrated upper-middle class area. Good Luck, Glen

Bayside is not all black but, the schools district is the top school district(SD # 25 & 26 also called region 3) in Queens, Bayside is very safe, excellent Baptist church. The People are very diverse and friendly, the Neighbors drive by your home and wave Hello to you. Well mannered and highly educated. Everyone from Police Officers, Doctors, Bus Drivers, Nurses, Teachers, Lawyers Etc.. are your neighbors. The Homes and Rent is expensive but, well worth it!.

Check out Mount Vernon in Westchester County. Upper Middle Class and very beautiful. It's about 85% African American and the town council and Mayor are as well. I hope you are happy with your move!

Mt. Vernon actually has some gorgeous neighborhoods that are indistinguishable from its neighbor, Bronxville.

Plus you get the street-cred of "Mt. Vernon" with a Fleetwood address

I don't know about the northern areas of Mt. Vernon, but the areas along the Bronx are pretty screwed up. The city of Mount Vernon built all their public housing along the Bronx border. The North Bronx is a high crime area as it is and seems to just extend into southern Mount Vernon.
