For instance, Syracuse was 31st and sandwiched in between Salt Lake City and Chattanooga, two growing areas. It was for cities with at least 65,000 people and Camden NJ was actually lower on the list than these NY cities(really). So, a lot of times it all depends on the criteria that is measured.

On the flip side, these cities have also garnered praise for being affordable options for millennials as well. Including this list that mentions Syracuse(and Albany): The 25 best cities in the US for people under the age of 35

Or this list, which includes all 3 of these areas and rates them pretty high: 100 Best Places to Live in the USA 2017 | US News Best Places to Live
I haven't seen it posted elsewhere.

I get that these publications are not always the "be all, end all" of where to live, but I think its important for all sides of an opinion to be shown.

I am also baffled by the ranking of some cities in this one. However, looking strictly at numbers, Camden would get a huge plus for extremely cheap housing in an area that is adjacent to a major city, where salaries could be higher than the natl avg. So, on paper, it could be appealing.

Obviously, when you see it, no one in their right mind would live there. Chester is another city that didn't make the list, and Gary, IN is ranked better than some cities like Tucson and SLC, which makes no sense.

So, that leads me to believe that SYR, ROC, and BUF are:
average housing cost
below average employment
above average poverty rate
low climate rank

-which will rank it lower than Gary and Camden at the end of the day (on paper, of course, not IRL).

Good points and Gary is kind of similar to Camden in that it has commuter rail access to Chicago. So, there is potential employment nearby. It also has the middle class Miller Beach neighborhood, which is on Lake Michigan.

As for the 3 cities here and to touch on a topic mentioned earlier in the thread, I think something that wasn't mentioned about Rochester is that the Charlotte neighborhood in the far NW Quadrant of the city is one that allows for residents to access Lake Ontario and has a neighborhood beach. https://www.google.com/maps/@43.2592...7i13312!8i6656
