I mentioned that since the person seemed to think that us northerners brought all the bad things down south when in fact some of those things such as that genre of music came from the south (florida).

"Around 1983, aggressive U.S. bands such as Florida's Death & Morbid Angel , California's Possessed, and Chicago's Master began to form. If one would call this diffuse genre "early death metal", the first recorded examples of this would be Possessed's album Seven Churches from 1985, Messiah's album Hymn to Abramelin and Strappado by Slaughter, both from 1986, followed by Death's album Scream Bloody Gore and Season of the Dead by Necrophagia in 1987."

If you want to get technical , "melodic" death metal came from sweeden and "black metal", the type of music where a bunch of morons dressed in corpse paint and body armor go around killing people and burning churches, came from northern europe. The term "death metal" came from the band named death from florida. Other bands were playing that style around the same time, but the band death coined the term basically, and allowed the type of music to grow allowing florida to be a breeding ground for that type of music. But we're getting a little far away from the topic.

OK...thanks! I never even heard of that type of music (hey, all we have around here are Clear Channel stations). Florida isn't necessarily the South. See all the "which states are Southern" threads (talk about boring!). Peace.
