Hey ya'll

My name is Justin and I am an elementary school teacher from South Carolina. I am looking at various states including New York as places to apply for an elementary teaching position. I would like to apply to any school in New York state. I do, however, have a high interest to apply for a teaching position within the Manhattan, Brooklyn, Staten Island, or Bronx areas. The reason why I would like to leave SC is because I wanted a challenge that will elevate me as a professional educator and also to get away from such a dilapilated state that does not keep up with the jones aka their finances as well as their priorities. To those individuals who are from SC who are living in New York should know about "The Corridor of Shame." It is a documentary that illustrated SC schools along I-95 that are in very poor and neglected conditions. As of today, those schools are still not progressing and I happen to be a teacher at one of the "Corridor of Shame" schools.

At the end of this year, I will have one year of teaching experience. I am currently under an initial certification in the state of South Carolina.

My question to anyone who is involved in education: Will New York State accept my initial certification in elementary education from South Carolina?

*Correction: The title should say, "South Carolina Elementary School Teacher Looking to Move to New York State."

Sorry, I am totally a type A person when I look for small things that I type.

If you are going to NYC, you might be fine, as they are always looking for teachers in the NYC public schools. You might want to check this out: Teach NYC - New York City Department of Education
