After rereading your city responses, doesn't sound like the Desert SW is ideal for you. Sounds like you enjoy the cold but not fond of the heat. Spokane may be better for you than Tri Cities since it is a solid 10 degrees colder year around despite being only a 2 hour drive.
Amarillo is one of my favorite towns in ways besides the Big Texan Steak Ranch. The Palo Duro Canyon is a very underrated and overlooked gem too. Been there several times and seems to be on the rise. Especially the west side of town.
Let us know on what you decide later this year. Best of luck !
I originally ruled out Spokane due to it being in Washington State, but I guess it couldn't hurt to research the city this weekend. Its climate would be a lot more tolerable than other cities on my list. Do you know much about Coeur d'Alene, ID? Maybe I could live there and work in Spokane.

Washington has no state income tax. Washington is gun friendly too. Too many people assume the state is nothing but gloomy weather and Seattle. The other side of the Cascades are a different world politically and socially. Eastern WA to me is one of the attractive areas of the West IMO. No reason to live in the Idaho panhandle.
Interesting. I will admit that I haven't really looked into Spokane (or anywhere in Washington State for that matter) because it wasn't one of the places I was considering. This weekend I will spend some time researching that area. Sounds like it might not be a bad option.

I am sure there are many states/locales that would say the same thing about "liberal minded" people moving into their location. We don't get to filter out those who have a different point of view....

Yeah, you can't win if you're a conservative who was unlucky enough to grow up in NYS. People in liberal states don't want you because you're conservative, and people in conservative states don't want you because you come from a liberal state (even if you are conservative yourself). At least that's the impression I get.
Do people realize that almost 2/3rds of the metro area's population does not live in New York city right?
How dare you
