Hey All,

I am a Brit who has been offered a role with my company working out of our New York office.

I have financial committments back in the UK which I will need to keep funding whilst I work in NY so have been trying to decide if its within my budget. I guess after tax and committments back home I am going to have just over $3,000 a month to pay for rent and living costs etc. I will be looking for a 1 bed apartment and know that Manhattan is out of my reach but is this do-able or am I kidding myself?

Thanks in advance for your help.

British Nomad, you might want to check out the NYC and Westchester areas of the New York boards if you haven't already.

You easily live in a good neighborhood in Queens and commute by subway to Manhattan.

for $3,000 a month for rent and living costs, you could do fairly well in areas of Brooklyn & Manhatten. I think you may get more for the same amount in Brooklyn.

Park Slope, Cobble Hill & Brooklyn Heights are pefect for quick commutes into the city and give you the best of Brooklyn & Manhatten with easy access to both.

New York Magazine recently ranked the city neighboorhoods with each of those three placing in the top 10.
