I think they're trying to get into the segment that would make it more of an SX than a Z. The Z should be a V6 or I6 300-400HP, 2-seater, weight of course I'd like the lightest possible, but realistically they would be ~3000lbs, $26-32K, and compete with V6 and V8s
An SX would compete with the FRS/BRZ and other light sporty cars.
A perfect SX would be 200-250HP all motor or 250-300HP turbo, 2600lbs, 4-seat, hatch or short coupe $20-26k

It's just codenamed z35, so the final name could end up being an sx. gotta keep your hopes up!

The Zxx codenames have always been for Z cars. The Z31 was the 80's 300ZX, Z32 was the 90's 300ZX, Z33 was the 350Z and now we have the current Z34 for the 370Z.

it could change? I'm not at all saying it will, or even that there is more than a one in a million chance that it will, but it could!
Per the article, I don't understand why automakers are so adamant to "wean" buyers off V6 engines and put them in turbo fours solely in the name of fuel efficiency. Some of us prefer the grunt and sound of a V6 (or V8 for that matter) and will sacrifice a few mpg for the larger engine option.
CAFE. It's only a matter of time until much higher MPG is mandatory.
The key letter in CAFE is 'Average'. As long as their mass-production economy cars get a high enough MPG, they can still make sports cars and trucks that fall under the average.

Right but you have to think that with requirements being so tight it makes sense to be economical across the product range rather than working extra hard to improve mileage on volume sellers in order to offset poor mileage on sports cars, etc. If their engineers can achieve a level of desired performance all while improving fuel economy then I say more power to them.
Yeah the current Z34 is due for a replacement soon. I'm excited to see what they deliver but those artist renderings are none too pretty (I understand they have nothing to do with the manufacturer). I would expect at least 380hp from the top tier powerplant with the Genesis Coupe now offering 350hp from their 6. The Z could easily offer that from a turbo four.
Id like to know WHERE they hide the 350 HP, cause after driving them on track recently they feel like they have about 150HP. And even with a decent alignment and almost 3 degrees of camber they still push like a dump truck. I REALLY wanted to like the Genesis, as did most of my coworkers, but no one has had anything good to say about them after driving them.
And why say you can turn off all the electronic aids if when you do now the computer will only give you 75% throttle..AND much delayed at that.??
At least the Z is consistent. It delivers what it promises. A pretty damn good car on or off track. Look forward to a new one.

I'm not sure what trim or in what condition the car you drove was in but disabling traction on my 2011 RSPEC (Brembos, LSD) disables all the nanny's 100% and does not limit throttle (as verified via logs while tuning). Everyone I've talked to who seriously tracks these cars had no handling complaints and even many journalists who tracked the cars with the camber bolts in place had great things to say as well. Maybe its just not the car for you but that's why we have options!
2013 RSpec and Track Coupes. And it definitely happens in all of them that we have. Hyundai has confirmed our evaluations and will be sending techs and engineers to try to give the cars some "help" since they have been gifted to the school and they want them to perform as expected.
None of what I brought up should be an issue for someone wanting a streetcar, but like I said, I and others WANTED to like it right off the bat and we were sorely disappointed. We'll see if they can work some magic with them.
