I always loved Nissan growing up. The 300Z, the Pathfinder, the Maxima, the Xterra were some of my favorites. I have owned many Nissans and some that were close to the 200k mile range when I was younger and they both looked and drove brand new. I think Nissan really started the decline in the mid to late 2000's and then when they insulted the Pathfinder name with their newest "crossover" monstrosity I consider them to be dead.
Yeah, calling that a "Pathfinder" is like calling the fat waste of oxygen in the motorized scooter at the buffet "Hunter/Gatherer".
I think it's the future of transmissions in the industry
To the main question- I think Nissan is the step child of the Japanese cars. They don't really have a "claim to fame". They are just ordinary like Kia and Hyunai used to be.
Quite frankly, while my Titan has an almost bulletproof engine and transmission it' pretty cheaply built. Panels are thin, paint oxidized within two years (despite being waxed twice a year), and the interior trim started cracking. Couple that with everything on it squeaking and rattling and it's enough to pretty much guarantee I'll never buy another. It's extremely reliable in getting from point A to B and can rival any full size truck in towing power, but is completely worthless in terms of fit and finish.
I have a 2006 Toyota Tundra. Good power train, very good ride quality but overall feel is not as solid as my 1995 Chevrolet truck. Almost everything seems light duty on the Tundra. The tailgate weighs almost nothing. Latches made of thin metal etc.

But Nissan's sucks. Subaru knows how to make a CVT. Nissan isn't getting it done.

This is true. The Jatco cvt's in the nissans due indeed suck compared to other manufactuers. I cant speak for Subarus but Honda's cvt is pleasant to drive unlike the cvt in my fiances Nissan Rogue.

Nissan is a company that has many troubles. They were called Datsun in the 70's,and rust buckets. Back in the middle 90's GM was on the verge of buying them. They were owned by Renault at that time. They almost went out of business. The cvt transmission IMO is very scary. It's a rubber belt, and is there a passing gear?. I had a friend work at the Nissan teck center in Plymouth Michigan. They were working on the Titan p/u truck design and he said the metal was so thin that you could dent it with just your thumb.

Sure they do. We just never got Skyline GT-Rs, until the current GTR now. Then there's the Z and, the Maxima and the Pathfinder which all have a great following.
Nissan/Datsun was actually one of the "chosen" manufacturers given the blessing and sent by the Japanese Imperial Palace to destroy (I mean conquer) America's car industry. The true misfit is Honda, who did not have the emperor's blessing - but invaded anyway.
Either way. They've had their troubles - and it took the French and the 2002 Altima to save them from extinction, but I like a lot of their products.
Still waiting for the Silvia to come back though...
Nissan is the worst manufacturer for workers rights, and made Alabama a socialist state when it used tax payer dollars to give to Nissan. 1.3 billion to a private corporation. Whatever were they thinking.

No. You must be thinking of Mississippi. We have Mercedes, Honda, Hyundai and Toyota plants here.
