Looking for video's on how to repair rear brake drum. Nissan dealer wants 56.00 to just look at it and 98.00 too adjust emergency brake cable. I checked Youtube and didn't find any video's on drum repair for my van.

Need a little more info really. What sort of drum repair? Shoe and drum replacement? Wheel cylinder? Parking brake adjustment? Drum brakes are pretty simple and all work generally the same way.

Just the brake shoes. Factory Brake shoes has 58000 miles on them. Not checked out to see what condition the brake shoes are in. Just a scraping noise when I put on my brakes.

If you have never done drum brakes before, a tip: Jack up the rear axle so you can get both wheels off, take both drums off, then disassemble only one side at a time. This way you have the still-assembled other side as a guide to re-assembly. You may need some special brake tools - one like a pliers and one to turn the "washer on a nail" things that hold the shoes to the backing plate.

At your mileage and with a scraping sound when you brake, yeah, likely you need new shoes.

Don't put it off, or the drums could get scored enough that they can't be turned, or you will at least waste a lot of metal turning them.

.
Solid advice.

I've done drum work a handful of times. Every time, I go to move one thing, a spring engages and the whole thing collapses. Always nice to have the other one still fully intact as a reference guide.
