My 2001 Nissan xterra overheats when I drive on the interstate for more than 1/2 hour, it runs normal temp for the first half hour, about 40 miles, then heats up rapidly, then stops before reaching all the way hot then rapidly goes down to operating temp and stays there for a few minutes then goes back up again then back down again. I have replaced the thermostat, the radiator, the upper and lower manifold gaskets. I cant understand what could possibly be doing this, it doesn't overheat completely, just to the top of operating temp then goes back down again but when I stop the motor is actually hot and is bubbling into the overflow so it isn't a sensor because it is actually getting hot, I watched it rise and fall for 45 minutes, what could be doing this? I am ready to give it a ghosty off a cliff. I have scoured the internet but haven't seen this exact issue anywhere. any suggestions would be helpful.
