Well, my entire family is on Facebook including my parents, aunts, uncles, first cousins, second cousins, siblings, and my brother in law's family. I am friends with all of them but I don't post anything on there really. Back in college (when the site really was just for college kids), my wall may have been subject to more inappropriate posts but these days I am more careful. I think everyone is to a certain extent and rarely does anyone post profanities or other inappropriate things on my wall. For people who do post inappropriate things (family and otherwise), we just shake our head at the dinner table and say "Oh, that's just like so and so". It's just all about keeping it classy.

I've got a few cousins and aunts and uncles added. I'll probably add my mom (dad doesn't have one) once I graduate college.

I just put 'em in a separate list that has certain viewing restrictions

No parents, no co-workers. But I am just about done with Facebook, I find it very depressing.

Here.

Create a list and populate it with the people you want in it.

Then when you go to post something, there's a little "lock" icon to the left of "Share". Click on that and customize permissions. If you want to keep somebody or a list from seeing that item, you just type the name of the person and/or list. You can also do the reverse and make it so only certain people and/or lists can see a post, such as a family-related matter that you don't want your regular friends to know about.

Another "good" way to use lists would be to prevent people you've "friended" at your job from seeing you make updates during business hours.

Now, for those people whom you don't want to see any of something (or even remove their ability to comment), you can use the settings here. There's many uses for this, but especially with sensitive family members, it might be a good idea to prevent them from seeing anything on your page, except for those things you specifically allow them to see.

Such as if you are a supporter of Topic A, that your grandmother openly haaaaates. If you post a lot about Topic A, you might want to prevent your grandmother from seeing all posts, and individually allow her to see your Non Topic A postings.

I <3 privacy settings.

if my mom ever joined facebook, I'd have to do all the communication on it for her since she's that computer illiterate. thankfully, she thinks facebook is "dangerous" hehehe.

Other than that, my little brother is on there and my half sisters and a cousin who are all in Israel except my brother so it helps to keep in touch.

Better for her to think that it is dangerous. Not saying anything against those who are computer illiterate, but even the smartest illiterate computer people can be tricked into giving out some information.

For example, many moons ago when I was on AOL, someone created a screen name that was similar to administrator and very professionally introduced himself and let me know that they were receiving notifications that there was a problem with my account and that they were here to help me fix it. All I had to do was provide them my password.

Of course I knew better and I knew AOL's policy that they never ask for your password, so I declined. But all it takes is someone very convincing and there goes your account and info.
