There are many articles that deal with this problem, I'm going to post an example here:

Toddlers becoming so addicted to iPads they require therapy - Telegraph

In recent years, the young ones have been spending too much time using electronic devices to the point where we are raising a generation that will lack proper social skills and require psychiatric help.

I have noticed that young beings who aren't at least in their twenties today are without the ability of standard communication skills and sometimes have parents who are oblivious to the damage that has been inflicted onto society.

Aside from the addiction problems discussed in that Telegraph article, there are also concerns with the content that today's young have access to. For example, teenagers shouldn't be able to view pornographic material, but with unsupervised internet access...they are only a click away from such mature content.

The media doesn't help them much either, when their role models are the likes of Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus. Today's teenagers have grown up too fast with concepts that they are simply too premature to comprehend.

If you are wondering how this is my problem...if I want to continue living life, I have to live in a world with beings who operate more similarly to robots than to analog-lifestyle humans of the past.

You may think that my robot comment is an exaggeration - but this is a serious problem as we dive deeper into the digital world of today. The more kids are glued to their gadgets - the more robotic and less humanly they'll become.

It is not my job to tell parents how to raise their kids. But I'd like to raise awareness of the problematic generation that has been raised.

Every generation thinks earlier ones are problematic and will destroy themselves and the world.

Your OP indicated it's a problem for society as a whole.

Are you around very many actual "kids and teens," or are you basing this pearl-clutching on news reports?

I agree with you.

I have been told by a teacher's parent that her daughter is having to train the little ones to respond to an adult voice. They hear it - but they are not used to having have anything to do with them, because their parents are always on the phone.

They have done studies in Japan that have results showing that young men prefer their anime girlfriend to a real woman - and that both sexes are not interested in sex at all, in alarming numbers. I think Japan has always been out there a little ahead of the US in tech - so can see that coming here.

We have had threads here with people complaining that people are on their smartphones constantly throughout a holiday meal - also complaining that friends are on them to the point of not being in the moment when they are with you.

It's not just the young - but the young are especially worrisome because they don't develop in normal ways.

No, this isn't about me trying to say "my generation had it the best". This is about the over-use of digital technology by youth and the negative effects it is having on society.

At least the kids today aren't listening to Elvis and gyrating their hips. That was the Devils work and doomed that generation and the world forever...just like they said it would.

I go to community buildings all the time (such as libraries) and as such I am aware first-hand of this. My usage of the Telegraph article was an example for everyone here of how real the problem is.

Like the negative effects the Beatles had on society?
