This seems so much more difficult for me now than it used to be, even though I haven't changed. I'm wondering if something is wrong with me.

Yeah I make friends pretty easily.

I'm a talker though. I work in a pretty social environment and my kids are very active so I'm always making new friends. I don't socialize with all of them frequently but from time to time I do.

I haven't made a real life friend in 22 years. The answer to the topics question is no.

I have made the effort, especially lately. The multiple rejections makes it not worth it anymore...

What a great topic!

I feel like I have a hard time figuring out how to transition from enjoying each other's company in a specific context -- e.g at work, in a book club, whatever -- and hanging out together outside of that context.

Close friends I have made in recent years have mostly started out on the internet, and become long-distance phone friendships with occasional visits. Or they are local, but stay within designated boundaries (e.g. work friends).

And, yeah, I thought it was just me....

There is nothing wrong with you.

It just gets harder for most people as they age.

Why do you think people reject you?

I try too but the people I have tried with (and like) are too busy for me. Or, maybe they're not but just don't like me.
