In my travels around town I see lots of people all alone who seem so isolated and lonely.

Christmas is coming up in a few weeks and I wonder what these sad looking people will do on Christmas Day. Will they have family and friends to visit with on Christmas and for maybe one day a year be around other people they can talk too, or will they be all alone.

Please answer my poll for a study on what people do on Christmas.

because I'm betting that happens...it may have even happened recently.

Where will you be going on Christmas?

Your first mistake is thinking that everyone who is alone is "isolated and lonely".

Your second is that everyone celebrates Christmas.

If you personally know people who are, indeed isolated, lonely and in need of some Christmas cheer, why not invite them to join you in your celebrations?

My extended family has ostracized me and my wife for not bailing out my sister who has not worked for years. They will not help her because they are all broke, but expect me to help her because we have money.

Just like on Thanksgiving we will be spending time with my wife's family where there will be little conversation and nearly everyone will spend their time looking at their SmartPhone.

Haha! For real, though, who is this person? Is it even a person at all? Or is it perhaps a lonely computer in a junkyard, slowly becoming sentient and asking all these questions about humanity so it can identify our weaknesses for the impending robot takeover?

I kid, I kid.

Anyway, OP, if someone is "lonely" and "isolated" then, by definition, they will be alone on the holidays. Some people are okay with being alone. And most people who look alone have family. Others don't have family or close friends and are prone to becoming overwhelmed by their aloneness, hence the mild spike in suicide rates this time of year.

It seems like you are determined to be unhappy on Christmas. I wish you well with that.

There is ALWAYS a place to go at Christmastime, IF the person cares to go somewhere.

But I have found that many lonely, isolated people are lonely and isolated by their own choice(s).

A definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results...

I usually go to a Chinese Buffet on Christmas.

Because there is no stupid Christmas songs playing over and over and no decoration.

This year I fly home to my family. I fly late with the excuse, the tickets were cheaper. So I will be up in the air or at airports for a day while everybody celebrates.
