A dear friend of mine is starting radiation treatment that will last about a month. I don't live close by so I can't help with household chores etc.

I was thinking of sending something once a week. Any thoughts?

Gift certificates for restaurants that deliver or deliver car side, or for a cleaning service.

Bless you for trying to help your friend long distance!

Food! Yummy snacks food. Either homemade or bought online. Fresh fruits basket. Pasta. Fine chocolates. Hand written letters. Knitted blanket (if you are crafty). Bath soaps and salts. Aroma therapy. Gift card for massage. Flowers or plants.

So sweet you want to be a presence and help pamper her.

The cancer clinic my mom goes to has a massage therapist on staff. You might check out massage or other services through your friends' clinic.

When my husband was very sick his parents sent a huge box of Italian food from and online vender, and some colleagues of his sent fruit. I was so busy caring for him, we lived off of that for a month. It was all easy for me to make and for him to eat. When he was in the hospital I would bring him easy snacking food. Stuff that he liked and goes down easy and digested fast. Ice cream, crackers, cookies and mashed potatoes with a load of butter and cream.

Oh if she has a smart phone or iPad, a gift subscription for audible. It's a nice way to spend time listening instead of being active.

Thank you for the ideas! Keep them coming. When we spoke I said how I hated not being able to be there for her. She had said she didn't need the meals help or cleaning which makes it challenging! I know what she needs more than anything is just a friend to sit and share a bottle of wine and talk.

No chance you can go visit? I know that's hard. Skype? You can order wine online, if she might like it (I don't think docs like them drinking in therapy).

Once she starts the treatment or is well into them, she may feel differently.
