Lost the EX in Jan.
I sent Christmas cards to the sister in law and daughter. Is this a good idea or not?

Why not? It's just a card. I err on the side of friendly gestures.

If you have a friendly relationship with them, it's fine!

If you still have a relationship with them, it's okay.
If not, it's just weird.
Did you get a card from them?

Why not? They didn't do anything to you. He did.

I sent a card to my ex-SO's parents last week. Today I received a card with two $25 gift cards to Barnes & Noble from them. They had sent me a birthday card in October with a few lottery tickets, too. (I won $10.)

I thought they might send a holiday card in response, but I didn't expect any kind of gift. I'm kind of shocked, actually. I guess they feel that 7 years with their son stood for something. Or maybe they feel I deserve a treat for putting up with him for so long.

OK. Thank you! I didn't think it was out of line, but wanted some other input.
I had a good relationship with everyone until he passed away. Then the sister in law told me just what she thought of me. wow! she should have told me this, when EX was still alive. Geezz. But..I try to be the bigger person instead of cowering in a corner, because her thoughts on me are totally wrong!
Besides the fact that EX and I share a son who is 16 and I don't think he needs the confusion and tension.
