i narrowed it down to:

1) gift card with $100 bill
2) gift card with two $50 bills
3) gift card with five $20 bills

seriously is that too much? is cash tacky??

Is she going to college? The cash isn't tacky, but will be spend on fun with her friends on the weekends this summer, a bed bath and beyond or target gift card would go a long way in furnishing a dorm. When I was 18 I was arguably more grateful for the gift cards when I went college shopping in August than I was for the money that I had already spent the weekend after I received it. I know you're planning on giving her both, but maybe just give her the full amount in gift card form. Either way, she'll be happy.
